A Few of our Favourite Things in May.

In so many ways shopping online is ideal: You can curl up in your comfies at ‘who knows what o’clock’ and nobody will judge you one bit. You can even pour a glass of wine and arm yourself with your favourite snacks without any kind of judgement. You can dip your fingers into several different shops all in one go without having to do the splits. It all sounds too good to be true which is why it’s no wonder that online shopping statistics are higher now than they’ve ever been. Whilst we’ve got a global pandemic to thank for a chunk of that great big jump; it’s easy to see why so many of us opt to shop online a lot more these days.

But here’s the thing: Sometimes it can feel like there’s just too much choice. Where at first it was only much bigger companies that could afford the luxury of a chain of real life ‘on the high street’ shops and a website to reach even more customers outside of your usual shopping hours; web shop templates offers from the likes of Wix and Squarespace mean that online shopping emporiums are accessible to the hugest and the littlest of small businesses these days! Which is great news for us. It’s great to be able to support your favourite small indie businesses but can still often leave you feeling like there’s too much choice and that you don’t know where to begin!

So we thought we’d help. We try to update and organise our website so that it’s fairly easy to navigate and find exactly what you’re looking for. We make sure to have clear sections and update our ‘New In’ section at least weekly to keep it interesting. But we thought we might start putting together a monthly ‘favourites’ post on the blog too. A quick round up of some of our favourite things and a little bit more info on why we think they’re great. We’ll try to keep to a rough theme each time – which will be extra useful for you around Easter, Mothers Day, Fathers day and even Christmas. Consider it a curated round-up of some things we just think you might like as much as us and that might have normally passed you by on the website or as you wander around our shop.

This month’s offering is a little bit garden-themed. Mostly because we’re crossing our fingers and toes that we’ve seen the last of the frost and know that we won’t be the only ones itching to get out in the garden and get it looking lovely for the warmer weather…

So here are May’ picks and a little bit more info on them and why we think they’re flipping lovely!

A genius idea if ever there was one! A nifty ‘gadget’ to help any keen gardener sow their seeds neatly 5cm apart. The prongs can be used to rake out drills for sowing rows of small seeds too. The flat back of the dibber also lends itself to tamp down compost over the top of the sown seeds. Also designed and made in the UK.

A necessity for a keen gardener! This handy wooden stand with twine features a built-in blade to cut lengths of jute twine without having to juggle a pair of scissors at the same time! Each stand is crafted in the UK from sustainable solid Oak and comes supplied with a big roll of jute twine.

A savvy pick up for amateur gardeners. This nifty little tin contains all you need to get growing and is perfect for keen gardeners and botanists alike! Contains twenty seed envelopes; one solid wood mini dibber, twenty wooden seed labels and one small pencil. Sustainably made from birch and minilla and designed and made in the UK.

A genius way to re-use paper and keep your gardening as plastic-free as can be! Use the solid wooden press to form and crimp strips of scrap paper and newspaper into ‘pots.’ Seedlings can be left in the pots when planted out as the paper protects the roots and also breaks down to create a soft mulch which helps with moisture levels in the bed. A great ‘kinder to the planet’ way to garden and even more cost and space effective aswell! What’s not to love?!

SO there you have it: May’s picks. Let’s hope we haven’t jinxed it and we can all get out and enjoy planting some plants soon! Have you made a start already? And what are you growing? We’d love to know. We’d also love to know if you’ve picked up any of our picks already. Make sure to let us know what you think over on Facebook or Instagram and tag us if you share anything! We love to see our products being enjoyed in their new homes!
